How Massage Therapy Can Help Car Accident Victims

Unfortunately, car accidents still happen today, even as cars are being made with more safety features. On Monday, July 18th, 2022, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 12:05 a.m. A 61-year-old man drove his truck off a roadway and crashed into a tree, resulting in serious injuries.

The Crystal Lake Police, Cary Police Department, and the Cary Fire Protection District also responded to the call. Additionally, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 2017 Capacity semi-tractor was involved in a crash west of the intersection.

Upon investigating that the truck driver by the 61-year-old was traveling west on Crystal Lake Avenue and west of Gieseke Drive. The man drove off the road for unknown reasons for crashing into the tree. The man was transferred to the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville to treat his life-threatening injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and it’s unclear whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role. It’s also unknown whether or not the man was wearing his seatbelt.

Car and truck accidents like these happen every day and can be the result of various factors such as:

  • Driving while under the influence
  • Reckless driving (like driving through stop signs or speeding)
  • Distracted driving
  • Driver’s fatigue
  • Road conditions
  • Weather conditions, including rainstorms or snowstorms
  • Missing or mismarked signage

Even the simple act of taking your eyes off the road for a brief second can cause an accident. Following a car accident, victims need all the help they can get. While you’ll immediately want to go to the hospital like the victim in this story, future treatment options like physical therapy, chiropractic care, and massage therapy exist.

Nearly everyone can benefit from massage therapy of some kind, and this includes car accident victims. Although massage therapy should never be a substitute for surgeries or physical therapy, receiving service from a professional and licensed massage therapist can improve mobility. Sometimes massage therapy is even recommended by physicians and other care providers. A massage therapist can provide you with the following benefits:

  • Easing muscle pains, tension, and soreness
  • Reducing overall blood pressure
  • Improving your sleep
  • Improving your energy levels and circulation
  • Easing back, shoulder, or neck pain

Massage therapy can also be a great tool for reducing stress which may come from factors like bullying, a stressful job, a death in a family, a hectic schedule, etc. Oftentimes car accident victims might experience PTSD or additional stress following the incident. Or the family of the victim may also experience stress or issues following an incident, especially in the case of wrongful death. Massage therapy can reduce stress and cultivate a positive attitude and outlook on life.
